Ahhh! I have 10 pages of size 8 print about Malaya during the Occupation to make notes on and I spent the last 1 hour doing 2 pages! This is CRAZY!
This is the paradox of Jac the (according to practically everyone) insane mugger-tode-nerd: She hates studying (especially econs) but likes knowing tonnes and tonnes of incredibly useless bits of information like truffles are a chocolate and a mushroom, and Cleopatra was one happening woman. So despite the fact that it is ten pages, and my brain seems to have atrophied (is that possible?), it's quite interesting, learning about the Japanese Occupation, and that sort of makes up for the torture I have to put myself through.
Of course, if this were econs, it would be another story.
Anyway, what I have done for the past week, apart from studied:
1. Went to Bintan over the weekend! Excuse me for the incredible swakoo-ness, but you can see the stars at night! And the beach IS NOT MAN-MADE! It's CLEAN! And PRETTY!
When we first reached Bintan it was 9 pm at night and the rest were at a kelong eating their hearts out. So Andy took Lifeng and me down to the beach, and it was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen. The sea spreads itself across the horizon, as far as you can see, and sheets of water crash against the shore, froth spreading out in long white lines like a string of tiny, tiny pearls. Look up, and the night sky looms over you, like a giant canvas of connect-the-dots puzzles, stars brilliant sequins scattered across dark cloth.
In the day, the water is clear and green, and in the shallower areas you can wade through the water searching for seashells. You rarely get a glimpse of the unfettered expanse of sky, with its gently floating clouds, in Singapore. On Sunday evening, while the guys were playing soccer, the rest of us waded out in the waters to catch the waves and watch the sunset bathe the sky in brilliant magenta hues. Nature just knocked me off my feet--concrete and tar have nothing on sand, sky and seashells.
Apart from admiring the wonderful scenery in Bintan I also discovered that while I am horrible at pool, I can pay a decent game with Jerald, so that's all right. I am, however, disastrous as bridge, and I get such a headache trying to figure out what everyone else is trying to do that it's just not worth it. The first time I played I managed to win without even knowing who was my partner because the rest didn't know I was so lousy and got confused when I just beat anyone whenever I could. That was pretty funny. But after that they figured out I didn't really know what I was doing and then I started getting a headache because that meant I had to really play properly. After a long while I decided to save them the agony of playing with me and go off to watch some mindless ESPN with the rest.
Oh, and I crashed into a bush while driving the buggy, but enough said. Everything was okay in the end :)
Had such a fun time that when I got back, I didn't feel like studying anymore :P
jac was here with you
